The fun part of any bathroom remodeling project is the design part. Selecting tiles, bathroom fixtures, shower curtains, paint colors, pictures, etc. – all of this is what makes it exciting. But, there are some non-glamorous factors that must be considered also. They will help you stay within budget, while assuring that you get the bathroom of your dreams. Following are three.
- Bathroom Remodeling Plan: A plan is like a roadmap, for this is where you decide what you want as far as design, functionality and layout. Consulting a contractor during this phase can be extremely helpful. For they can tell you what’s possible – and what’s not – based on the layout and structure of your home.
- Bathroom Remodeling Budget: This is one of the first steps in any home remodeling project. It’s easy to go over budget without established limits. A budget will let allow you to see – in black and white – what you can afford, and what you can’t.
Tip: If your heart is set on a certain design but you can’t afford it, consider having the project completed in phases. Prioritize what needs to be done, and complete each phase as you can afford it. An experienced contractor can help you with this. They’ll be able to tell you what absolutely must be done first, which brings us to the next point . . .
- Behind-the-Walls: What we mean by this is the electrical, plumbing, wiring, etc. All of this has to be properly evaluated by a professional contractor before your bathroom remodeling project actually begins. This is particularly necessary if there is plumbing and wiring to be relocated or reinstalled.
An experienced bathroom remodeling contractor will be able to tell you which materials are needed, their costs and where to get them (if you decide to go the do-it-yourself route).
